The goal is not to make a child learn.

The goal is to help a child want to learn.

Capture attention, cultivate their interest, and GO!

Hungry Homeschool was created by Rebecca Cofino, a homeschool mom, former English teacher, author, and avid home cook and baker. She used to operate a sell-out stand at her local farmer’s market, but is now focused on developing delight-driven homeschool curriculum.

During the pandemic, she decided to abandon regular lessons and create a fun, engaging curriculum for her children. Since so many activities were canceled, she wanted schoolwork to spark curiosity, and cultivate creativity and connection.

(Did we mention Rebecca is a chocaholic?)

She searched far and wide for fascinating books and then expanded lessons to include play, projects, movies, and lots of baking. Her kids were hooked and woke up every day excited to learn. They would ask questions or comment on facts they had learned during their free time. Their questions weren’t just about chocolate, but also the larger world events they studied as they followed the trail of chocolate. Learning about airplanes parachuting chocolate to the children of East Berlin made them intrigued about the Cold War. They were absolutely hooked on learning! What’s more, they remembered what they learned.

Rebecca discovered that she accidentally hit on the trifecta of learning: curiosity, engagement, and retention. This shifted the way she taught her children and prompted her to create Hungry Homeschoolers so all students could take advantage of the freedom homeschooling provides and truly make learning fun again.

  • We believe that engagement is a prerequisite to learning.
  • We believe in great books that capture the imagination. Story is so powerful.
  • We believe in choosing something kids love and pulling its thread to see how it connects to history, world events, different cultures, business, and science.
  • We believe the element of surprise is an underutilised, but highly effective tool in education.
  • We believe fun doesn’t have to be sacrificed for rigor, and rigor doesn’t have to be sacrificed for fun. Both elements are key!
  • We believe in making homeschool curriculum as easy as possible for parents to implement.
  • We believe in curriculum flexibility because all students and families are different.
  • We believe if school is boring, you’re doing it wrong.
  • We believe engaging projects offer excellent opportunities for students to develop interdisciplinary skills, a strong work ethic, and pride in accomplishment.
  • We believe in families creating special treats together, reading books together, and cuddling up to watch a movie together.
  • We believe that children blossom when they learn real-life skills.
  • We believe in chocolate!
